The DJs Serving the Berkshires

You will find a mix of local DJs and those who travel to the Berkshires for weddings. Many have earned strong reputations through consistent reviews and years of experience. Below are some notable names.

There are many area DJs in Western MA and CT that literally will not DJ outdoor weddings.  In the Berkshires, most venues are centered around that beautiful outdoor backdrop.  It might be a tented wedding at Chesterwood Mansion or an outdoor ceremony at Gedney Farms or your outdoor cocktail hour in the sunken gardens at The Mount.  Your DJ needs to be able to run your outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour using battery-powered equipment.  (No electrical plugs out in the middle of the field)

Local Berkshire-Based DJs

DJ Rob Alberti, featured on Berkshire Wedding Company, is a luxury wedding DJ who serves the Berkshires, Western Massachusetts, Hartford, Newport, and the Hudson Valley. Here is DJ Rob Alberti’s DJ Origin Story:

Rob Alberti grew up in Southwick, MA (that little notch on the bottom border of MA).  He started DJing in High School and bought his first DJ setup with his college fund.  It was a way to pay his way through college.  He went to college in Troy, NY at Rensselear Polytechnic Institute (RPI).  Just about every weekend, he would travel back to Western MA and CT to DJ.

Once he graduated with his Mechanical Engineer’s degree, he continued DJing on the weekends. This is when DJ Rob Alberti started doing 100’s of weddings each year. About 10 years into his engineering career, he realized that it was time to make a decision and he quit his aerospace career in favor of a future as a full-time wedding DJ.

He grew his business over the decades to a roughly 20-person staff.  He had as many as 10+ DJ and became one of the area’s largest multi-op DJ companies.  They also morphed into the largest area wedding lighting company, doing as many as 10+ lighting installs each weekend during the busy May-Oct wedding season in The Berkshires.  From simple uplighting and tent string lighting to multiple chandeliers and custom built wood focal points, they were the go-to company in The Berkshires and Hudson Valley.

Over those decades, he has trained so many DJs, assistants, and Lighting Technicians.  So many wedding DJs get burnt out after only a few years in the wedding industry but Rob used that fuel to continue his legacy through each new hire.  Keeping up on the wedding industry through conventions, networking and tight connections with other vendors kept him young and always trying to better his performance, gear and presentation.   It’s what kept him from burning out and falling into a boring routine.

Rob has walked away from the multi-op business (one of my younger proteges has taken over the day-to-day running of that old business – Rob Alberti Event Services)  and now runs a streamlined wedding DJ and rental company – The Berkshire Wedding Company.  He is only taking on a handful of clients each year as he slows down to a more comfortable pace, spending more time with family and travelling.

Pricing for Wedding DJs in the Berkshires

Wedding DJ pricing in the Berkshires varies widely based on experience, services included, and travel distance. According to listings online, your Berkshire Area Wedding DJ will probably be between $2,000 and $5,000. Yes – DJ prices are higher in the area, but that’s inline with the average wedding budget in that area.

Most DJs on The Knot do not list specific prices, but some indicate affordability levels. Many DJs prefer to give custom quotes after learning about the wedding date, venue, and timeline. It is always a good idea to request a detailed proposal that lists all services and any travel fees.  Be sure to mention that you venue is tented, in a barn, without air conditioning and no power for your ceremony site, so that those details don’t come back and haunt you later in your wedding planning process.  The unique multi-space sound system requirements of most Berkshire wedding venues not only requires you to have a DJ with 2 – 4 sound systems, but they will also need an assistant DJ just to handle the logistics of setting up and tearing down gear over the course of those transitions from space to space.

Services Beyond DJ Music

A wedding DJ today often does more than play songs. Many professionals offer a range of services that can enhance your reception. Based on the research, several Berkshire-area DJs provide extras like lighting, multiple sound systems, and MC duties.

Rob Alberti includes options for dance lighting, mirrorballs, and uplighting as part of his offerings. These visual elements can transform a plain ballroom or tent into a magical space or highlight key moments like the first dance and cake cutting.

Not all DJs provide these extras, so be sure to ask specifically what is included in the package you are considering.

What to Consider When Choosing Wedding DJs In The Berkshires

Selecting the right DJ for your Berkshire wedding takes some research. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you compare options.

Read recent reviews. The Knot and The Bash are good starting points. Look for DJs with a number of reviews and consistent 5.0 ratings.

Ask about backup equipment. Professional DJs should have backup speakers, microphones, and cables in case of technical issues.  Look at photos of their gear – will that blend into your wedding decor or will it stand out?  Some DJs have large signage and like to light up their gear like they are the highlight of your wedding day, others offer all-white DJ gear or custom DJ furniture for a more wedding look that will blend better with your wedding vibe.

Discuss your musical preferences. A good DJ will work with you to create a playlist that reflects your style while reading the crowd during the reception.

Confirm service area and travel fees. Some DJs are based outside the Berkshires and may charge extra for travel. Clarify this before booking.

Look for a DJ who knows Berkshire venues. DJs like Rob Alberti regularly work at local venues and understand layout and sound requirements.

Ask about additional services. If you want lighting, a photo booth, or MC services, choose a DJ who offers these or can recommend a vendor.

Taking the time to speak with potential DJs by phone or video call can help you gauge their personality and professionalism. The best DJs are those who communicate clearly and make you feel confident about your wedding day.  You should expect that all of your wedding vendors should respond in a timely manor – if it takes them more than a day to respond (outside of busy wedding weekends), they might have a full-time job and just do weddings as a side hustle.  They just might not be giving your wedding the full attention you deserve.

Frequently Asked Questions for Wedding DJs In The Berkshires

How much does a wedding DJ cost in the Berkshires?

Pricing can range from around $2000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the DJ’s experience, travel distance, and services included. Many DJs give custom quotes, so it is best to request a detailed proposal. Some DJs labeled as affordable on The Knot may have lower starting rates, while luxury DJs with lighting and photo booth packages tend to be even higher.

How far in advance should I book a wedding DJ in the Berkshires?

Popular DJs often book out 9+ months in advance, especially during peak wedding season from late spring through fall. There are only 24 prime wedding days each year and with outdoor venues like The Berkshires, that can even be less. It is a good idea to start your search once you have secured your venue, typically at least 12 months before your wedding. For less busy dates or weekday weddings, you may find more availability closer to the date.

What should I look for in a wedding DJ?

Look for experience with weddings, a professional sound system, and backup gear. Read reviews on platforms like The Knot, Zola and Google to see what past couples say. A personal consultation via Zoom can help you decide if the DJ understands your musical taste and the vibe you want for your reception.  Most answers to your questions should be readily available on their website and their social media posts should resonate with you.

Do I need both a DJ and a band for my wedding?

Not necessarily. Many couples are happy with a DJ who can provide a wide variety of music genres. However, some companies offer a hybrid service that combines a DJ with live musicians. This can be a great compromise if you want live entertainment for part of the evening and DJ flexibility for the rest. You can also hire a band for your wedding and add in a DJ for the band breaks, to handle your MC needs and to play your after party. Discuss your vision with potential vendors to see what fits your budget and style.

Choosing a wedding DJ in the Berkshires is an exciting part of wedding planning. With so many talented professionals in and around the region, you can find someone who matches your musical taste, fits your budget, and helps create the celebration you have always imagined. Take the time to read reviews, compare services, and ask the right questions. Your perfect DJ is out there, ready to keep the dance floor full from start to finish.
