DJ Rob Alberti

DJ Rob Alberti’s DJ Origin Story & Reviews

Rob Alberti grew up in Southwick, MA (that little notch on the bottom border of MA).  He started DJing in High School and bought his first DJ setup with his college fund.  It was a way to pay his way through college.  He went to college in Troy, NY at Rensselear Polytechnic Institute (RPI).  Just about every weekend, he would travel back to Western MA and CT to DJ.

Once he graduated with his Mechanical Engineer’s degree, he continued DJing on the weekends. This is when DJ Rob Alberti started doing 100’s of weddings each year. About 10 years into his engineering career, he realized that it was time to make a decision and he quit his aerospace career in favor of a future as a full-time wedding DJ.

He grew his business over the decades to a roughly 20-person staff.  He had as many as 10+ DJ and became one of the area’s largest multi-op DJ companies.  They also morphed into the largest area wedding lighting company, doing as many as 10+ lighting installs each weekend during the busy May-Oct wedding season in The Berkshires.  From simple uplighting and tent string lighting to multiple chandeliers and custom-built wood focal points, they were the go-to company in The Berkshires and Hudson Valley.

Over those decades, he has trained so many DJs, assistants, and Lighting Technicians.  So many wedding DJs get burnt out after only a few years in the wedding industry but Rob used that fuel to continue his legacy through each new hire.  Keeping up on the wedding industry through conventions, networking and tight connections with other vendors kept him young and always trying to better his performance, gear and presentation.   It’s what kept him from burning out and falling into a boring routine.

Rob has walked away from the multi-op business (one of my younger proteges has taken over the day-to-day running of that old business – Rob Alberti Event Services)  and now runs a streamlined wedding DJ and rental company – The Berkshire Wedding Company.  He is only taking on a handful of clients each year as he slows down to a more comfortable pace, spending more time with family and travelling.

What style of music are you looking for at your wedding?

Whether you are looking for Top 40, 2000’s throwbacks, EDM Dance Hits, an 80’s party, Yacht Rock DJ or if you are more into Motown and Disco – DJ Rob Alberti will bring the bangers – no matter what the genre.  You can check him out on his MixCloud account and listen to many samples from all those genres.

We always suggest that you LISTEN BEFORE YOU HIRE your wedding DJ.  Sure, they might have a few edited video clips on their DJ Instagram Account, but will they keep everyone at your wedding dancing for more than 30 seconds?  That’s why you can hear more than just a simple 2-song transition on our Mixcloud.  This is exactly the quality and style of mixing that you can expect when you hire DJ Rob Alberti. Looking for standard versions of classis? More into quick mixing style where songs are mixed about every 2 minutes? Or are you into dance remixes? Yep – DJ Rob Alberti can handle all of those styles.

What Type of DJ Gear Do You Use?

Most of our wedding couples really don’t care about the brand or style of DJ gear that we use, but for those of you more into the tech end of things, here is a simple rundown of the style of gear we use.  There are times we substitute newer gear or different brands based on a particular client’s needs or venue layout, but these are our typical GOTO wedding setups.

Ceremony System:  Mackie 16-channel mixer, 4 Shure SLXD digital wireless microphones (lav mic and handheld), EV Evolve 30M column array speaker and Yeti Goal Zero power supply.

Cocktail Hour:  EV Everse 8 battery-powered speaker with tablet input.

Dinner & Dancing (Main DJ Sytem):  Denon Prime 4+ DJ Controller, Shure QLXD wireless microphone, Telefunken M60 Wired Microphone, Driverack, Custom Wood DJ Furniture, RCF NXL 14-A W, RCF SUB 15-AX W or RCF J9 Column Array or EAW LA400/RCF SUB-9006AS and RCF 945A or RCF NXL 44-A MK2 Line Array (Based on venue size and guest count)

DJ Lighting:  A combination of our Retro Portman Style Hex Lights, 360 Tube Lights, Mirror Ball and Moving Head Wash Lights, Uplighting -based on the vibe you are going for and venue architecture.

Backup Gear:  We always have complete backup gear with us.  That means, spare laptop, hard drive with all our music, tablet, DJ controller, mixer, wireless mics and a full backup sound system in case of any problems.

What Is All This Gear Worth? Our standard setup (not counting backup gear cost or our alternative setup gear costs) is well over $20K in value.  Sure – we could go and buy entry-level DJ gear for much less, but we don’t like gambling the quality of our performance on inferior, cheap DJ gear.  You deserve only the best sound at your wedding.

Average Wedding DJ Cost Near Me

Sure, you can find wedding DJs that only charge $1000-$2000 to DJ your wedding.  Just like when you are out shopping for a car – there are different levels of quality and service.  I always equate why we charge so much more than the average wedding DJ in the area – if you put 3 different DJs in front of the same crowd, with the same music library – you would get 3 very different parties.   Maybe the first two DJs are not very confident on the microphone or talk like they are introducing in a sports team.  Then there is that one that can eloquently make announcements, direct your guests with simple instructions, and doesn’t talk between every song.

Then, when it’s time to dance – maybe the first two DJs struggle to find the groove and the songs just don’t quite fit your vibe.  The blending of songs is more like a train wreck, and those stupid wordplay mixes just cleared the dance floor for the 3rd time.  Then, it’s Rob’s turn, and guests are up and dancing right from the start.  In fact, they might have even started dancing between courses during dinner because the vibe was so engaging.   He didn’t yell for people to put their hands in the air or beg them to get on the dance floor – he just played the right music at the right time, and everything just flowed.  By the time the last song is announced, you realize that you’ve never left the dance floor, and it’s not just your 12 friends from college out there with you, but it’s guests of all ages that are surrounding the two of you as the last song fades out.

That is the difference between a $1000 wedding DJ and a $4000 wedding DJ.  Don’t you deserve the best?  Your guests will be raving about your wedding for years to come.
